The Trip to the Wine Tasting

Today we went to the wine tasting, lots of fun as usual. The wine tasting is tricky, because I have to travel--gasp!--out to the suburbs to get to the liquor store. I do not do well in suburbs. Once I had to go to the suburbs, and I got so lost and confused that I pulled the car over and sent everyone a frantic e-mail: "I hate the suburbs. It is DARK and they have TREES." But it's true! It was dark! And they do have trees! Dark trees! These suburbs are okay, because they're not very woodsy and very civilized. Plus it was daytime. So I didn't go through any panic and was very calm, except for my usual road rage at ALL THE PEOPLE WHO ARE INTENT ON DRIVING IN A WAY THAT WILL ANNOY TO THE MAXIMUM DEGREE.

I bought far too many bottles of various types of spakling wine (I think I bought every type they were selling), a couple of interesting whites, and a pinot grigio that was the best I'd ever tasted.  [info]arctacudasaid all the vendors are happy to see me coming: "Small girl, drinking lots of wine, buy one of everything at my table!" But I swear that I buy with restraint! I do! Plus I bought a lot of gift wines this time around, because it makes sense.

[info]bscotchpumatold me the following awful things:

They are closing Jake Ivory's to make way for a House of Blues?! What?! Is this true?! I can't really find anything online about it. If this is true, it means I have to go to Jake Ivory's every night until it closes, so that I can get my fill.

Public gardens grow their plants in greenhouses and then cart them in and plant them and just pretend that they grew outside like nomal plants. And I'm not talking about things like pansies, I'm talking about things like lilacs. Is this true? I feel betrayed.

Worked all day on my lovely website, which can be found here. It clearly needs a bit more work, but I am pleased with myself for figuring so much out! And now, as a reward, I get to watch some Who!

Gotta look out for that evil suburbia! Heehee. Come to the Phoenix, AZ suburbs! We have no trees! Lots of dirt, concrete, and cactus. But very few trees.

Yes, I might do better without the trees. People could be hiding in there!

Hard to hide in a cactus... :) Although it's still impossible to navigate, because everything looks the same.

Even as a suburb native, I agree with you. Don't ever drive in Dover after dark, because it's nothing but utterly deserted, winding roads and deeply creepy woods. I swear, it's the perfect horror movie set.

As for the annoying drivers...I dunno, I've been feeling nostalgic lately. Honestly, I miss driving in Boston. I would love to get cut off, or have someone give me the finger. Out here, everyone is so nice that they don't actually change lanes when you let them in, etc.

Exactly! Anything could happen to you out there!

Oh, but that's my issue. I'm very much a Boston driver. If the people around me are driving aggressively, I'm okay. It's that timid driving that DRIVES ME CRAZY. When I lived in the South, I totally didn't understand the lazy, casual, polite driving. I actually was always worried I'd get in an accident driving like that...

I know exactly what you mean. Say what you want about our rudeness, at least we can maneuver when we need to. My friends out here are always impressed at how quickly I can get from the left lane to the exit ramp when whoever is navigating gets distracted. I've had to tone it down since I got here, but I figure the Massachusetts plates give me some leeway.

I feel like the real issue is that, to my mind, they take too long to make decisions. So, if I've slowed to let them cut in front of me, they take SO LONG to decide to move that I decide they're not moving at all, and so I speed up again, and *then* they decide to move, and I have to slam on my brakes...

Wait--what? Jake Ivory's? WHAT?!

*ahem*

And I--yes, I--will nobly volunteer to help you with the sparkling wine infestation! ;)

And I have no doubt you will sacrifice yourself to help with the sparkling wine.

My friend's therapist cautions him to avoid moving to the suburbs because of all the trees. Or specifically, becuase "the people live in trees out there" and "no one will hear you scream".

It gets worse. I live in England, so the trees are everywhere! London is the only place that is safe...
